How to launch an API into a market, and keep it there

This presentation was delivered at the Developer Marketing Summit in July 2021. Catch up with a variety of talks with our OnDemand service.

Hi, I'm Nick Knuppe, Product Marketing Lead at Mollie, and I’m going to talk you through a topic I'm extremely fanatical about: Go-to-market – more specifically, how to launch an API into a market (or several markets) and keep it there.

You might be wondering what I mean by “keep it there.” I mean driving initial market adoption and usage of your API, ensuring your customers successfully integrate it and use it to make repeat API calls between systems.

In this article, I’ll be specifically looking at:

  • What exactly is GTM,
  • Building a bulletproof GTM framework,
  • The role of sales and marketing in GTM,
  • Writing a killer value proposition,
  • Measuring success,
  • Closing the feedback loop, and
  • Key takeaways.

Before we get down to it, I’ll tell you a bit about me and my background. My career spans various consumer tech companies where I've been fortunate enough to be part of and lead incredibly agile growth, brand, and product marketing disciplines.
